HISTORY

The Hills as we know them now originated as a Hollywoodland housing development. The creation of Hollywoodland began in 1923 with the help of a syndicate led by Harry Chandler, developer Sidney H. Woodruff, and General M. H. Sherman, the originator of West Hollywood. The iconic sign that stands today as Hollywood, overlooking the city, lost the “land” element of Hollywoodland.

The sign was initially installed in 1923 and read “HOLLYWOODLAND.” Its purpose was to advertise the name of the housing development in the hills around Beachwood Canyon.

Over time, the Hollywood Hills evolved into what we now know as the home of movie stars and performers. During the 1960s and 1970s, a large music scene blossomed in the Hollywood Hills. There were a lot of musicians recording and sharing ideas at Laurel Canyon. Many musicians made history at Laurel Canyon, including Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Carole King, The Byrds, The Eagles, Neil Young, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, and Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork of The Monkees.

In the Hollywood Hills, real estate values are at an all-time high. Because of the spectacular views and proximity to the city center without the immediate metropolitan vibe, this location preserves its value.
