COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT – BEACHWOOD CANYON

Beachwood Canyon is a neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, located in the Hollywood Hills, in the northern part of the city. The Hollywoodland hamlet, which was marketed in the 1920s by the original of what is now known as the Hollywood Sign, is located at the top of the canyon. There is a grocery, a cafe, a florist, and stables in the area.

Beachwood Canyon, which has a population of over 22,000 people, was founded in the 1920s by a syndicate that included West Hollywood’s founder, Gen. M. H. Sherman, Los Angeles Times editor Harry Chandler, and real estate developer Sidney Woodruff (who also developed Dana Point).

The enclave’s architects and landscapers were inspired by the southern regions of France, Italy, and Spain, as well as Germany’s turreted castles, and built in the Storybook house architectural style.

Over the years, film filmmakers have preferred the canyon, so movies like the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) were shot there, with terrified crowds streaming down Belden Drive.
